On Saturday, 25th May 2019, India and New Zealand meet each other ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The teams will play the first of two warm-up matches ahead of the 50 over tournament. Virat Kohli, India’s captain, and Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s captain, will lead their teams onto the pitch at The Oval. The match will give cricket bettors and fans a valuable chance to see the teams in action before the tournament starts proper.
India’s Batting Order
India knows which players are their openers and the number three. The number four batting position has had somewhat of a question mark ahead of the World Cup. In general, India does well in the One Day International format. Despite this, the team recently lost their first ODI series at home since 2015.
The team members are clearly in good form, having performed well in the Indian Premier League. However, balance is particularly important in selecting the batting order. Players to watch during the warm-up are vice-captain Rohit Sharma and left-arm wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Both were not on top form during the Indian Premier League. We can expect that they will work hard to show they are back on form.
The team openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, followed by Virat Kohli, form a strong starting lineup. The three strong players play well in the 50-over format, and should give the team a good start. In addition to these strong batsmen, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, and Kedar Jadhav add depth to the batting order.
India has a number of good all-rounders in the team. As for spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, both wrist spinners, are an integral part of the team.
The Bet365 shows cricket betting odds of 3.00 that Virat Kohli will be the top batsman for the Indian team. Rohit Sharma is the next favorite with odds of 4.33. He is followed by KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan with odds set at 4.50 for top batsmen in the match against New Zealand.
India’s Skipper is On Form
Earlier this week, Rahul Dravid took to Twitter to comment on Virat Kohli’s playing ability. He Tweeted: “Virat just keeps improving, keeps getting better. He is setting bars and standards that possibly we thought would never be achieved.”
Keep an eye on Shikhar Dhawan. Since Shikhar first played in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, he has been India’s best run scorer in ICC tournaments. At the 2015 ICC World Cup, Shikhar added the most runs for his team. In addition to this, The Oval is a great venue for Shikhar. The left-hander has made two centuries at this venue. He definitely enjoys the batting conditions at The Oval.
The flat batting conditions at The Oval often results in high scores for both teams. Although it will most likely be partly cloudy, there is no rain predicted for the warm-up match.
Odds are On an Indian Win
Both India and New Zealand feel ready for the warm-up and are pleased with their teams. Bet365 odds are on India to win at 1.57. New Zealand’s odds sit at 2.37 for a win in the warm-up match.
