The ICC World Twenty20 tournament gets underway today in the West Indies, and it’s time to make our first set of predictions for the games over the weekend.
I have not made any hugely controversial predictions, although I’ve gone for a narrow win by the hosts over Ireland – the Irish have one or two reasonable players, and I expect them to come out firing in their opening game. The West Indies should prevail, but I don’t think it will be a walkover.
Elsewhere, I’ve predicted victories for India in both of their group matches, and one victory and one defeat for reigning champions Pakistan.
Here are my SportGuru predictions for Round 1 of the World T20:
New Zealand v Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka by 18 RUNS or 5 WICKETS
West Indies v Ireland: West Indies by 13 RUNS or 4 WICKETS
Afghanistan v India: India by 53 RUNS or 8 WICKETS
Bangladesh v Pakistan: Pakistan by 27 RUNS or 6 WICKETS
India v South Africa: India by 21 RUNS or 6 WICKETS
Australia v Pakistan: Australia by 21 RUNS or 6 WICKETS
