We have teamed up with our friends at publishers Peridot Press to give away three copies of the superb new book by Jonathan Smith, The Following Game.
The Following Game is about cricket, family and poetry, but most of all it’s about a father following his son’s career in the public eye and the close relationship they share; from a father throwing tennis balls down to his young son, to a father watching his son making his way in First Class cricket and the international game.
Jonathan is the father of Ed Smith, former Kent, Middlesex and England cricketer, now himself an accomplished writer.
In this beautifully written and emotional book, father and son take a trip to India to discuss First Class cricket, front-foot defence, the Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, life, death, long-haul flights, poetry and prose, sleepless nights, laughter and the creases of a teacher’s life – all flowing like a good conversation.
Travelling, poetry, life and, ultimately, cricket. Need we say more…
For your chance to win a free copy from The Cricket Blog, simply ‘like’ us on Facebook, below, then e-mail your name and address to competitions@thecricketblog.co.uk by 9am Monday July 11. We have three copies up for grabs and, in our humble opinion, this is a very good prize indeed! Good luck.

I have read Summer in February and enjoyed immensely, especially being a member of the Lamorna Society in Cornwall where it all took place, I can’t wait for the film. I have since bought the book for presents for family and friends so am eager to read Jonathan Smith’s latest book.
