The Ashes series is one of the most famous Cricket competitions and is competed between Australia and England. For the 70th series, which kicked off on the 23rd November with the first test in Brisbane, the two teams are currently tied on 32 wins each, having drawn the series 5 times.
The series has witnessed 4 whitewashes, with the majority of them seeing Australia win the famous urn. Three times the Aussies have successfully defeated England 5-0, the most recent coming in the 2013/14 series. England have only ever managed to achieve this once, back in the 1886 series in a 3-0 victory. With eyebrows being raised at the England squad, cricket betting odds are more likely to favour Australia achieving yet another whitewash.
In order to avoid being embarrassed as they were in 2013, England will be relying on the likes of Alastair Cook, Stuart Broad and Captain Joe Root to use their experience to guide their country to victory. If they manage to overcome the odds England will not only be winning the decisive 70th series but will also be retaining the Urn that they won back in the 2015 series.
Australia will be confident of victory though as despite both teams having won 32 series each, the Aussies have dominated in test matches, winning 130 of the 325 that have been played. The series being played at ground across Australia will also help their confidence with a home crowd likely to instil the confidence required.
England have already been made the underdogs for the series, despite Australia not even announcing their squad meaning that England are likely to need to pull something extraordinary out of the bag in order to having any chance of retaining the urn.
