The 2019 cricket World Cup is taking place in England and Wales this summer, but the Indian national cricket team will be bringing a little bit of home with them to the UK. The best cricket betting sites list India as the second choice behind England to win the World Cup at 3.75 odds.
In general, there are a limited number of days that close family may travel with Indian cricketers while on tour. Players requested an extension to the set time period for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. At this time, it appears that an extension is going through the approval process.
Cricket betting fans wonder how this will impact India and other national teams’ performance at the ICC 2019 World Cup.
Cricket players are under a lot of pressure when playing international tournaments, especially the Cricket World Cup. There are strong opinions that having family, or those that players are close to, takes some of the pressure off.
Players and the team management feel that the traveling time is far too long to consistently travel without family members. They sent requests to the Committee of Administrators at the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
According to the current rules, families may join for the first two weeks of a 45-day tour. At this time, it appears that the BCCI extended the time limit on family traveling with India’s World Cup players. The extension increases the time period to a maximum of between 20 and 30 days instead of just two weeks.
Cricket Player Family Traveling Complications
Part of the reason the Committee of Administrators is not keen to agree to too much family time is logistical. The BCCI staff book hotels, arrange transport, arrange match tickets, and much more. This is complicated when dealing with large numbers of people.
Last month, a BCCI official commented on the issue. He said: “If the team is traveling with fewer members, it is easier to manage. It’s easy for BCCI staff to make off field arrangements. Right from booking tickets to rooms, the entire management of handling the arrangement is with BCCI. It would be a logistical nightmare if this arrangement – of families traveling with the players – continues to be there in England for the entire duration of the World Cup.”
Last year, Virat Kohli, the team’s skipper, and other players, requested that family members join them. Although there was a large amount of overseas travel, the BCCI rejected the requests.
Potential Travel Plans
The final conditions are as yet unknown, but sources expect the BCCI to grant the extension. Kohli and his team leave for England just 10 days after the Indian Premier League’s final match. The team departs on 22nd May 2019. It is likely that families may join the team 15 days after they arrive in England for the World Cup.
India’s first World Cup 2019 match takes place on 5th June when they play against South Africa. After this match, their family members arrive in England. It is a longer time period than in the past. However, the time limit means that if India reaches the semifinals, families leave before this time.
It might not be perfect, but if the extended family travel time goes through, it is much better than before.
India Brings a Cook
The last time India toured England, there were few menu choices for Indian players at the hotel. Because of this, the team regularly ordered food from outside sources. To prevent this, and to ensure the players follow a specially designed diet, the team will have their own cook.
